Buy a car that is a year or two old. Cars lose a ridiculous amount of value in their first year or two (and also have most of their mechanical problems). You could get a lo-jack system. Or even just "The Club" or similar physical deterrent device. I think I'm going to get something like that for the summer when I'm down in Pasadena.

Glad you got the rental figured out.

I'm a big fan of Saturns (having been a Saturn owner for 8 years now). Fairly cheap, reliable, can be small, good with bouncing back from dents. :)

Good luck. Hopefully they find the car, or your insurance company gives you loads of money in replacement!

Mazda MX-5 Miata? I'm not really into convertibles. And I think a miata might be -too- small. 4 seats is kind of necessary so I can put stuff in the back seat and my trunk (like my bike for example)

If I was going to go for a 2-seater, I'd have to consider getting a smart car. :)

Cody: No, no idea of the person's record, as they haven't caught him or IDed him yet. The cameras aren't good enough of a resolution in my parking lot to ID a random person when it's dark out. They could recognize me coming out of the car because they knew what I looked like and what I was wearing. Cameras probably showed good height, weight, build though.

All they know is that the car he drove up in was stolen 3 days ago. I'm sure they know how far away the other car was driven from, but they didn't happen to mention that. But, they did get prints so maybe they have an ID by now.
