Lost my job.

I’ve just been informed at the end of the day yesterday that I’m being laid off from my job.

I’m less upset now than I was yesterday. Went out and got pretty tipsy at a bar with my roomie and his friend, which was nice. I’m taking it all surprisingly well. I was recently contacted about a technical writing contract job, so I think I’ll try to go for that now that I’ll have a full 40 hours a week to commit. Could be pretty sweet.

I’m finishing out the month, which will be Super Fun(tm) but at least it will let me earn ONE full paycheck on my great big raise they offered me in December.

*sigh* Never work for a startup unless you have a safety net.

I need to keep reminding myself that employment is not a need-based program and probably never would be even if Ayn Rand had died before learning to write.

I lost my heart to a starship trooper.

I was reading the bio for Sarah Brightman on last.fm, and read that not only did she once lead a “raunchy” disco group called “Hot Gossip”, but they had a hit song in 1976 called “I lost my Heart to a Starship Trooper”.

Now… how can a title like that NOT make you giggle with geeky joy?

A few seconds of google-fu later and I found a youtube video of that very song being performed.

Here are some highlights from the lyrics:

Hey, Captain Strange, won’t you be my lover
You’re the best thing that I’ve ever discovered
Flash Gordon’s left me, he’s gone to the stars
An evil Darth Vader has me banished to Mars

Tell me, Captain Strange, do you feel my devotion
Or are you like a droid, devoid of emotion
Encounters one and two are not enough for me
What my body needs is close encounter three

*snip*

Space suit is lying on control room floor
Pulse rate increasing as the heat factor soars
Take me, make me feel the force
Ignore the computers, we’re locked on course

*snip*

Chorus goes like this:

I lost my heart to a starship trooper
Flashing lights in hyper space
Fighting for the Federation
Hand in hand we’ll conquer space

Isn’t that awesome?

harassment laughs.

I’ve been getting a lot of unnecessarily nasty comments from a certain reader on a certain post. None of it is getting published of course because I filter all my comments from unknown users.

I’m still having lots of laughs from this guy though. Quote of the day:

Don’t listen to this girlie, she always try to show you, that she are/have great geek woman (but is just another lammer in the fishtank).

How’s that for an insult!? Apparently I live in a fishtank!

Hahaha.
