I cringe every time I read an email between my friends on our mutual club-related listserv when it reads something like “Thanks Jim. It looks very complete. I look forward to talking with you about it on Wednesday!”
Gahh! It just sounds so … I don’t know. so keigo. So, over-polite. so.. so much like what I’d expect in some anal-retentive office, or written between 40 year old business people who are trying to pretend to be “casual” the way “Casual Friday” is casual. But this is just A STUDENT ORGANIZATION. and we’re all good friends! what the hell!
It’s just so ick. And up until now, I’ve stuck with my less formal-polite tone and corresponded with them more like human beings. All my writing OUTSIDE the group has been very very formal, though. don’t get me wrong.
gah. I just wish they’d stop. Wish they’d write normally with us. (SAVE KEIGO FOR THE OUT-GROUP!!)
On the other hand, maybe I should be writing more like that too… and I just don’t know it… :(
Shit, i’m going to be late for work.

yeah, keigo in english is weird. we compared english and japanese keigo a lot in one of my waseda classes. basically for english, we decided on “be vague and use dictionary-style big words” (ie. wastebasket instead of trash can, or just trash (”hey, throw this in the trash, would you?”)). also, don’t ask somebody for something, ask them about the possibility that it might be something they’re willing to think about doing…. yeah.
… i still don’t like that avatar-icon. hmph.

ha ha ha ha. yeah. exactly.
Well, I like YOUR icon. :)
also, you do know that he’s beating the crap out of a copy-machine in mine, right? You did see Office Space, didn’t you?
maiki_desu | 08-Feb-05 at 7:16 am | Permalink
we’ve been through this. no, i’ve never seen office space. but if you think it might be a good idea, It’s rude of me, but possibly you could consider lending me your copy of it for a short period of time, if it’s not too much to ask :P
if i saw the movie i might like it.
still don’t.
i like copy-machines. they make my face look real funny on paper :D so do cameras, but i guess that’s an problem inherent with me and not the photocopying/graphing device :/

I don’t own the movie. I could download it for you though. :)

It doesn’t seem that formal to me. There’s even an exclamation point. My old boss would glare something fierce every time I would put the ‘forbidden punctuation’ in anything inter-office.

i like your little picture thing.
starladear6 | 10-Feb-05 at 12:10 am | Permalink
I think it’s called an icon. :)
But I could be wrong.
jfkennedy | 10-Feb-05 at 3:14 pm | Permalink
ahh..yes. an icon. taken from the name for the early biblical tapestries and frescos.. thanks.. i’m not in a native english speaking country anymore and my english vocabulary is being shut down more and more..
but wait, an icon is a pictorial image, your’s was a movie clip, so it wasn’t really an icon, now was it?

Actually, I was trying really hard to be an ass.
buddy-icon, userpic, avatar… it’s all the same thing.

Who are you? Your account has no info in it… looks pretty new. but apparently you know me… you’re calling me “em”.
So… who are you?
So, you really think that I care/worry a whole lot about this? I’m sorry that you misread my entry. maybe I should be disclaiming things more often, saying “this is just me venting/laughing at something I think is ridiculous” or disclaiming that my journal does not represent me as a whole. all that entry represents is my emotional state at the time it was submitted.
Anyway, nice to meet you. I wish you’d identify yourself.

It’s me Keone i know its just an emotional vent… and yeah you stoped going to my space so its not like i can just email you on this live journal thing i got to creat an account… but your right the usually use of journals to for emotinoal venting not to lay do soild instilled concrete beliefs but they can be at times… anyway hope to clarify any missconception, being anonomus (excuse the spelling) can be interesting… Aloha

Hey wow!! why didn’t you say it was you? Sorry if my comment was a little defensive sounding. I’m a little bit afraid of annonymous posters, because I’ve had some bad experiences with drama. that’s why i disabled the anonymous commenting option so that I could at least visit their userinfo to learn who they are etc. but that doesn’t work if someone doesn’t PUT ANYTHING in their userinfo. ha ha ha. :)
And you can always just email me you know. ‘nashife at gmail dot com’ is the main address. :)
and btw, be sure to click the ‘reply to this’ button when replying to comments. they thread nicer that way. :)
Anyway, I’m adding you to my friend-list, so if you log in with your account and come back here, you can view the entries that I only allow friends to read.
ttyl! awesome to hear from you. April’s got a livejournal too you know. :)

yeah..i realized that you were.. but i’m nonviolent as long as i’m not inebriated, so i was trying to be nice. anyway. i liked it.
