writing my seminar paper 中

Oxymoron of the day: significant minorities.

Word of the day: kokusaika (国際化):the discourse of “internationalization”. I’m reading about how that word actually seems to mean “Americanization” and the significance of that disparity. Kinda interesting.

yeah. that and that “gaijin” almost always means “white american”, “amerikajin” also means “white american” (apparently there is no other races in america besides ‘white’. and they all want to steal japanese women from the japanese men). “mukou” when referring to another country usually means america. and other such examples. what are we to do with those japanese? hmm,.-’`'-.-’`

oh, am i replying in livejournal instead of studying for my math final? woops!

How do I see all the characters in your journal that are just boxes? Do I need a certain font or something like that? I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess they’re Japanese characters.

Also, I’ve looked everywhere on your info page and in your journal for the mention of your gender. I saw somewhere you said you had a boyfriend, so I thought I had it nailed. Then somewhere else you said you were bisexual, so I felt defeated once again.

By the way, I’m not a stalker … I got here because I saw you were the maintainer of the oregonstate group. =)

Nevermind! There’s pictures on your website. I’m sorry, I’m slow. I’d still like to know what the characters are, though, and how to see them.

Hey, sorry it took me so long to reply. yeah I’m a girl.

And yeah, those characters are Japanese characters. what browser/OS are you using? (I’m guessing windows?) I’m surprised you can’t see the characters if you’re running anything later than 98se… check your character encoding and tell it to use unicode (UTF-8) and it should be fine. Livejournal is all unicode-happy. :)

and nice to meet you. :) you staying in ctown over the break too?

    Wow! it’s Chris!

hey! Yeah, your email address is STILL in my little notebook. Your userinfo says you have some social anxiety, and well… me too! which is mostly why I didn’t talk to you much, or send you an email. (that and being so busy… I hate being busy during the break. :( )

But, now that you’ve tracked me down, I feel less shy now. so maybe I’ll send that email in a few minutes. :)

Yeah, I pretty much live in Corvallis now … I don’t leave too often. I might spend a couple days in San Francisco (where my dad lives), but that’s about it.

so, did you get the characters to display? I checked out your journal, and now I’m guessing that my last comment might have seemed pretty rude. You probably know way more about computers than I do… and maybe you’re not on a windows pc right now at all!

anyway, sorry if that sounded mean.

    ^^;

No! Not rude or mean at all. Unless those smiley faces are lies … but I bet they’re genuine. Anyway, I knew I had to install a language or something off the xp cd, I just wanted to make sure it was Japanese before I started doin’ it. Everything is fine now. Although most of the characters are about as confusing as the boxes were. I don’t know much kanji.

yeah. i’m getting better with interacting with people face-to-face. i even talk in class now. i guess having to teach a class kinda forced me to deal with that. and i’m presenting a paper at a conference in february, which is still kinda scary even though it’s basically reading a paper while looking up once in a while (at least, that’s the style of presenting that appeals most to me…hence the anxiety).

that sucks that you’re busy during the break. i should be working on my thesis, but i’m pretty burnt out from last term, so i’m trying to take it easy.
