I went to http://www.moveon.org/unitednotdivided/ and said
I believe that the democratic system we employ in the United States is a useful and usually a very just and fair system. However, I believe that if left to a majority vote by the population in America, the American people will vote to ratify this amendment to the US constitution which will allow descrimination and hate to have constitutional backing. The argument that “might does not always make right” has already been made in conjunction with the majority opinion during the civil rights movement. It has already been pointed out that if the american public had been allowed to vote on the issue of whether or not slavery should have been abolished in the US, it may not have passed. In cases of moral precident, when the majority opinion may for some reason be in favor of discrimination and hate, someone else must step in and speak for the moral minority.
Gay marriage does not threaten our society. If anything, removing obstacles to the recognition of gay marriage will send a message of acceptance and tollerance for all lifestyles that all American citizens engage in. It will unite people of very different worlds under a hate free and multi-colored American bannar.
Give our society a chance to prove that we are evolved enough to grow and transcend old discriminatory habits that no longer apply to our growing and changing society. I am positive that the gay and allied community will prove that we are just as capable of contributing to the health and well being of society and its children, because we are no different from heterosexual people, in relationships or single. We are all human beings, and we are all Americans.
If you are alarmed by the idea of having the United States Constitution amended to define marriage as a “union between a man and a woman”, please click on the link, send your comments, and call your senators. (their phone numbers will be sent to you with the confirmation email.)

This is all retarded. People keep ranting that “those gays” shouldn’t get the Constitution changed just for them. Yet how many of them are speaking out against heterosexuals getting the Constitution changed just for them.
Isn’t it illegal to discriminate based on race, religion, sexual orientation or gender?

gender, race and religion, I think so. but it’s not illegal in a few areas to discriminate against someone based on sexual orientation yet. I think most of those policies are made by the separate companies or whoever it is that states it in their policy.

Sadly it’s doesn’t surprise me that Bush is trying for a constitutional amendment. His arguement is to “preserve the integrity of marriage”.
What the hell?
Marriage doesn’t have a clean track record at all.
The divorce rate is up 80%+ than what it used to be.
Protect marriage? It’s already gone to hell.
Integrity my foot.
As for the attempt to block gay marriage, what?
No… America is about people having freedom and having the choice open for them. You shouldn’t ever block freedom if it’s not hurting anyone.
Who does gay marriage hurt? Nobody I don’t think.
All it does is mess with pretend values that have no basis in reality.
If a man wants to marry a man, I have no problem with that.
Not that I myself would call that a wise choice, but still, I’m not gay.
Because I’m not and don’t believe in that life style, doesn’t give me the right to block it for others or pretend it’s non-existant.
The same thing’s going on with censureship. Pretend values.
These are laws trying to be made after the facts.
Gay couples are already living together.
Shows and movies already exist that are “immoral” when the censureship bug is applied.
I truely doubt a constitutional ban on gay marriage would ever make it off the floor. But then again, you never know….
Someone’s always trying to force their will on someone else.
But I’d like to have more faith in America, than that.

HI!!
Thank Goodness amending the constitution is a VERY hard thing to do, first it needs 2/3 of the votes from the Senate, a vote yes would mean the senator is voting to amend the constituion, or a no vote (or a “I just don’t care enough to even show up vote”) will mean the senators are voting against amending the constitution. And let’s say it DOES pass, both the House and the Senate… Then it will have to be ratified by two thirds of the states, and each state legislature has it’s OWN rules on how to ratify an amendment. So All in All I strongly doubt it will be passed.
THANK GOD!
